Dr. Leola Anifowoshe-Brown, PhD

For more than two decades, Dr. Leola Anifowoshe-Brown has dedicated her life to helping people understand one of the most emotionally devastating conditions a person can experience—hair loss.

As founder of Texas Hair Restoration & Wellness Center, creator of Investigative Trichology®, and nationally recognized as The Hair Loss Detective™, Dr. Leola has evaluated thousands of individuals searching for answers after years of frustration, misdiagnosis, and unanswered questions.

Throughout her career she noticed a troubling pattern.

Many of the hair loss conditions disproportionately affecting Black women—including Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) and traction alopecia—received little public awareness, limited education, and insufficient research funding. At the same time, she also witnessed alopecia affecting Hispanic, Asian, White, Indigenous, and multicultural communities who often struggled to find reliable information and compassionate support.

She realized the problem was much larger than any one clinic could solve.

That realization became the inspiration for creating the National Alopecia Foundation for People of Color (NAFPOC). Although the foundation proudly recognizes disparities affecting communities of color, its mission extends to every individual and family impacted by hair loss.

NAFPOC exists to advance hair health equity through education, awareness, advocacy, research, and community support while bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, hairstylists, barbers, educators, patients, and caregivers to improve lives.

Dr. Leola believes education is often the first treatment.

When people understand what is happening, they are empowered to seek appropriate care sooner, make informed decisions, and find hope.
